More Fun with Pretty Packing Tape

One of my oldest and dearest friends, Lynnette, had a birthday this past Friday. I sent her a little something to celebrate, and the packaging made me as happy as I hoped the gift would make her! :) Isn't it cute?! Not only did I get to use my pretty packaging tape, but I also got to recycle an everyday product package to be useful once more. SCORE!

Recently, I have become addicted to Crystal Light. I love it. Yum. I also really like these containers. They are a great shape, great size, and you can easily tear the product label off which leaves you with a blank slate to work with.

Other fun ideas for these nifty containers:
pencil boxes
crayon boxes
lego box
piggy bank
treat or snack box
food container for lunch box
cosmetic box (to take on the go)
sunglass box

Endless possibilities!

Remember a few weeks ago I mentioned a giveaway coming soon? Sorry it's take so long.... but no more wait!! COMING TOMORROW....FANTASTIC GIVEAWAY!!

STAY TUNED! :)

Tracy

PS- HAPPY BIRTHDAY to my Netterbean!!
I love you, friend!!

More on the Jedi Party

Ok, sorry folks,I realize now that in my haste to post Cash's party before leaving on vacation, I didn't give as much detail as I should have... OPPS!! :)

To rectify this situation, I wanted to add a couple of things.

Jedi robes:
Considering I don't really SEW sew, I had pretty much just decided to buy some material, make a kind of sandwich board "robe", tie a rope around it for a belt, and call it a day.

Then I Google searched JEDI ROBES one more time. I found this website,
and I thought, "Hey, I can totally do this without SEWING!" The website calls for sewing, but I hot glued it instead. I thought about using a no stitch glue, however, I didn't have the time to wait. Hot glue satisfied my need for instant gratification. :)

They may not last a lifetime, but they will do the job. (and be super cute!)

Death Star Pinata:
Being on a budget (a tight one!) I did NOT want to spend $10-30 bucks on something that was going to BE BEAT DOWN AND RIPPED OPEN....you feel me, right? RIGHT! I decided to go for the gold here, and just make one. Considering I was going for the Death Star, which is round, it didn't seem so out reach.

This about.com guided me in this easy peasy process. I found a pic of the Death Star online, and painted my pinata accordingly. It turned out a bit egg shaped because of the balloon, but I was still pretty proud of it. :) SUCCESS!

Light sabers:
Yummmmy! Sweet and salty! My faaaaaaaaaavorite! Get some pretzel rods, and wrap aluminum foil around the last inch of each rod. Melt your favorite white chocolate, and dip non foil portion of the rod into the chocolate. Sprinkle chocolate with sprinkles, and lay on wax paper to cool.

Sadly, there isn't a closer, better pic of the light sabers. boo.

There you have it. More details.

Jedi Party

My oldest son turned five yesterday. FIVE! I can't even begin to believe it. This year Cash decided on a Star Wars themed party. This was a really fun theme! Even my hubz got involved in the decorating. :)

I started by creating an invitation based on this one from Aimee Austin Designs.

This is perfect because Cash is equally obsessed with Legos and Star Wars.

I also found a lot of fabulous inspiration from these sites:

Make and Takes
Tip Junkie
Amazing Moms
Birthday Party Ideas

Here's the spread...and before I go any further...I really dislike these pics and truly do not think they do any justice. It's totally like me to wait until the last minute to take pics, then rush through the job hopping, with fingers crossed, that they come out fantastic. Odds were against me. Anyway, you will get the gist.
We had Clone Cupcakes, Vader Veggies, Padawan Popcorn, Wookie Cookies, Lightsabers, and (not pictured= at the drink table) Yoda Soda. The battle scene in the middle of the table was designed by Cash and my hubz. (See! He was all about this party!)

In attempts to make everything more futuristic I used all (almost) silver trays and covered non silver ones with foil. Everything in the future will be shiny and reflective, right?

I made 4 different cupcake toppers, but hard to see from this angle.
You can, however, see how I made the table toppers...there's the Clone Cupcake on on the bottom.

Yeah, this poster looks a little sad here. Seriously, it did look better in person. It has two toy ships attached and it's painted to look like a galaxy...you know...the one far far away. Anyway, it's pretty pitiful from this distance.

The Padawans' first trial was to go through the obstacle course, find the bomb, and save the city. Simple, right? Oh, and that crazy looking guy in the back with a cape...that's Count Dooku.

Our good friend, Stephen, was a fantastic sport, and agreed to dress up as Count Dooku from the Clone Wars. Not only did he dress up, but he also agreed to let the young padawans take him down. :) I thought his costume was amazing.
KUDOS, Stephen, KUDOS!!

Young Cash made it through brilliantly!

Taking Dooku down was suppose to be the finale, but the Padawans just couldn't stand by with dark forces around, so they moved this portion of the program up a bit.
The group helps Dooku see that there can be GOOD in us all...(cheesy, yes, I know..)

Flori and my youngest, Luc looking  pretty darn cute.

The New finale, The Death Star pinata. This was my first attempt at a homemade pinata, and I was proud of its likeness to the Death Star. :)
Luc takes the first crack at it.

"Happy Birthday" song, and the candles being blown out.

He looks so grown up...

Me and my big boy

Me and my little boy

This one is for my mom. She wanted to see my Leia inspired hair...

Cash had a great time, and so did I. It's always good to catch up with friends, and enjoy yummy party food!

May the force be with you-

Tracy

Pretty Packing Tape?? Since When?

Ok, so I am probably the last to know. Am I? Did you know? Know that there is pretty pink damask packing tape out there in the world? Know that black and white polka dot packing tape needs a home? (In my house...) Well, I didn't. However, now I am privy to this fan-tab-ulous info. I really wanted to wait and order some of this awesome stuff from Tapeswell before posting this, but I couldn't wait! I found some pink/black zebra print packing tape at Wal-Mart, and even though that's not necessarily...um..."my style"...I snatched it up, and put it to work.

First, here are some prints that are "my style" and I must order ASAP.

See?! Aren't they cute? Can you just think about the possibilities?!

This little project is nothing ground breaking, but it was exactly what I needed to begin summer.
A new journal.
I am kind of freakishly crazy about listing things, so I like to have a journal on hand at all times for these lists. I am also kind of freakishly crazy about new journals to start new seasons of life.
Summer is a new season. New Journal needed. Old journals need NOT APPLY.

I found this notebook at Wal-Mart, and by the cover is seems as most others.....
Judge not by the cover...
This is some kind of office notebook. I dont know. Couldn't tell you. I just thought it was fun and almost vintage-esque in a Mad Men sort of way. I mean, really, do offices even use notebooks anymore?
Annnnnnyway,
it was perfect to hold all my summer secret lists that detail the odds and ends of my life.
I took that newly found packing tape and simply laid strips to the outside and inside of the notebook cover. Before adding to the inside of the cover, I did hot glue a piece of ribbon to the cover to create a tie.
Finally, to throw it all over the edge, I added a little initial personalization glam.
Shhhh-bam! Totally fun new summer glam notebook.
Been writing my lists in it ever since.

Old Chair Update

Look at my newly reupholstered chair! Isn't it beautiful? I L.O.V.E. it! Of course, I can't take credit for this DIY. My hubz did it for me! I bought this really great material, but of course, had a million things to get done. Andre was super sweet, and took care of it for me. YAY! One more thing I can scratch off my list.

Background on chair for those who care... :) The first year we were married, I found this chair at a yardsale, and it looked ROUGH! I brought it home anyway. Andre saw potential, as I did, so we sanded it down and varnished it. For some insane reason we bought the material shown below to cover it. WHAT WERE WE THINKING??

Before: UGLY!!

Now: SOPHISTICATED!!

It adds another little POP of blue to my living room.

Thanks, love, for helping me out!

Colorful Summer Tray...for SUPER CHEAP!

Ok, so like most "crafters", I am in love with presentation. (Admit it....come on...do it.) I love making things look pretty, colorful, cool, different. I love taking the most unusual suspects, and repurposing them for good. :) Having said all of that...you now understand why it makes me so very happy to take a cheap glass candlestick, purchased from the Dollar Tree, and turn it into something I proudly display in my kitchen. This fun little tray took no time at all, and just about as much money to make. MY. KIND. OF. DEAL.
A couple of months ago, I was browsing Target, aka...my "go-to" store, and I ran across these plates in the new spring stuff. Now, you all know I am a sucker for color, and I knew right then that I totally NEEDED these plates. However, regardless of cute factor or cheap factor, (the plates were only a buck or two apiece.) my hubz would really not be pleased if I brought home an entire new set of unneeded plates. (He's becoming quite the minimalist.) Then after remembering this tray idea, I snagged one dinner plate, and one salad plate.
I was actually planning a trip to the Dollar Store to buy a couple of candle sticks, but while doing laundry in the basement I discovered an old box holding decor from my big 30th "Pink Party." I found candlesticks in the box! SCORE!
Pleased as punch, I sprayed a couple of coats of primer, then a couple of coats of my current favorite shade of blue, then topped it all off with a coat of shine sealant. I used E-6000 glue to adhere the plates to the candlestick, and let it sit overnight. That's it. SEE??? Super easy!
I really wanted to glue two candlesticks together between the plates, but my kitchen is running out of storage space. I wasn't quite sure where I would put it, being that height, so I stuck to one stick.
Didn't it turn out cute? I have been using it as a fruit tray on my kitchen table, and I cant wait to use it at my next party.

Hope everyone is having a relaxing weekend, and soaking up this beautiful weather!
~Tracy
